This Privacy Policy explains how PracticeRC ("we", "us") handles information when you use the PracticeRC website at practicerc.com and the PracticeRC browser extension (together, the "Service"). PracticeRC turns an article, essay, or passage into reading-comprehension practice questions.
The short version
When you use PracticeRC, the text you select or paste (the "passage") is transmitted to a third-party AI API for processing so that practice questions can be generated. We do not store, retain, log, or sell the passage text. It is used only, in transit, to generate your questions and is then discarded.
What information we process
- Selected or pasted text (passages) and article URLs. When you highlight text or paste a passage or URL and ask PracticeRC to generate a test, that content is sent to our server and then forwarded to a third-party AI API to produce the questions, answer options, and explanations.
- Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive and store your name, email address, and Google account identifier so we can create your account, keep you signed in, and track your generation credits. We do not receive your Google password.
- Usage analytics. We use PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated product-usage events (for example, that a test was generated) to understand and improve the Service. Analytics events do not include your passage text.
How your text is used and shared
To generate practice questions, your passage text is sent to a third-party AI provider (currently accessed via OpenRouter, which routes the request to an underlying large language model such as Anthropic's Claude). This transmission is necessary to provide the core function of the Service. The text is processed to return generated questions and is not stored by PracticeRC. The AI provider processes the request under its own terms and privacy policy; we do not use your passage text to train any model.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties except: (a) the AI provider described above, strictly to generate your questions; (b) infrastructure providers that host the Service (such as Cloudflare) and our analytics provider (PostHog); and (c) where required by law.
Data retention
- Passage text: not retained after your questions are generated.
- Account data: retained while your account exists, so you can sign in and keep your credits.
- Analytics: retained in aggregate to improve the Service.
Your choices
You can use PracticeRC without submitting any text simply by not generating a test. You may request deletion of your account and associated account data by contacting us at the email below. You can control cookies and site data through your browser settings.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
