Privacy Policy

This policy covers the PracticeRC website at practicerc.com and the PracticeRC Chrome extension. It explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we never do with it. Last updated 24 July 2026.

The short version

We collect the minimum needed to run the product: your account details, the passages you submit, and the tests generated from them.
The Chrome extension only sends text you explicitly select and choose to practise with. It never reads your browsing history and never collects page content on its own.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.
You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.

Data we collect on the website

Account information

When you sign up — with Google or with email — we store your name, email address, and a session identifier so we can keep you signed in. Authentication is handled with secure, HTTP-only session cookies scoped to practicerc.com. We never see or store your Google password.

Content you submit

When you generate a practice test, the passage text you paste or select is sent to our server, where an AI model turns it into questions. We store the generated test, your answers, and your scores so you can review your history. Submit only text you are comfortable sending to us.

Usage analytics

We use PostHog to understand how the product is used — for example, which features are popular and where errors happen. This includes events like "test generated" tied to your account identifier. We use this solely to improve PracticeRC, never for advertising.

The PracticeRC Chrome extension

Single purpose

The extension does one thing: it lets you turn text you select on an article you are reading into a CAT or GMAT-style Reading Comprehension practice test, generated and scored by your PracticeRC account at practicerc.com.

What the extension collects — and what it doesn't

Only text you explicitly select. Nothing leaves your browser until you select passage text and click Generate. Only that selected text, plus the page's title and URL (so your saved test shows its source), is sent to practicerc.com.
No browsing history. The extension does not track, log, or transmit the pages you visit. Article detection (the small toolbar badge) runs entirely inside your browser and sends nothing anywhere.
No keystrokes, no form data, no third parties. The extension communicates exclusively with practicerc.com — the same backend the website uses — and with no other server.

Why the extension requests each permission

Permission	Why it is needed
`activeTab`	Lets the extension act on the tab you are currently reading when you click its toolbar icon — capturing the selection you made and opening the side panel for that tab. It grants no access to other tabs.
`sidePanel`	The practice test itself — questions, timer, scoring, and explanations — runs in Chrome's side panel so you can answer questions alongside the article without leaving the page.
`storage`	Saves your in-progress state locally in your browser — the passage you selected and the test you are midway through — so nothing is lost if the side panel closes or the page reloads. This data stays on your device.
`cookies`	Used only to read the practicerc.com session cookie so the extension knows whether you are signed in to your PracticeRC account. It does not read cookies from any other site.
Host permission (`practicerc.com`)	Allows the extension to call the PracticeRC API with your signed-in session, so tests you generate from the extension are created, scored, and saved under your own account — exactly as on the website.
Content script (all sites)	You can practise from an article on any website, so the selection tool must be able to run on the page you are reading. It only highlights the text you select and detects whether a page looks like an article — locally, without sending page content anywhere.

No remote code

The extension does not download, evaluate, or execute code from any remote server. All of its code is bundled into the package reviewed and distributed by the Chrome Web Store.

Limited use disclosure

The extension's use of data complies with the Chrome Web Store Limited Use policy. Data collected by the extension is used only to provide its single, user-facing purpose: generating and scoring reading-comprehension practice tests you request. It is never sold, never used for advertising or creditworthiness decisions, and never transferred to third parties except as required to provide that purpose (our own practicerc.com backend) or to comply with law.

How your data is processed and shared

PracticeRC runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure, and passages you submit are processed by an AI model provider strictly to generate your practice questions. These service providers act on our behalf and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes. Beyond that, we share personal data with no one — we do not sell it, rent it, or use it for advertising — unless we are legally required to.

Data retention and deletion

Your account, generated tests, and results are kept while your account is active so your practice history works. If you want your account and all associated data deleted, email us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy we will update this page and its "last updated" date. Continued use of PracticeRC after a change means you accept the updated policy.
